NY Fashion week trends

I really enjoyed looking at the videos and pictures from this year's fashion week. I've never really taken time out before to look at the other ones but I really like what I've seen from this year. It's exciting for me to see all the different designers with these varieties of patterns, fabrics, textures and silhouettes is amazing. The talent of these desginers are amazing, and the product of their great ideas are even better.

One of my favorite collections that I saw was the one from Marc Jacobs. His style of design is genius to me. He uses many colors and knows just how to put them together just right. I feel like the clothes are setting off a new trend of its own because he used everything that's popular in fashion and put it all together in one outfit. The collection also has a modern day Mary Poppins look to it.

The picture below is one from his collection.

Another designer whose collection I ejoyed was Zac Posen. The majority of his collection were dresses, long and short of all types. I think of the the designs as sexy night-out-on-the-town garments. Some of the clothes are frilly and flowy and others are close fitted pencil skirt desgins. The main colors of the fabrics all seem to be around beige, off white, silver, tan and black. The whole collection has a elegant yet sassy look to them and I like that.

One more designer that I liked was Nicole Miller. The prints and patterns in her collection was inspired by voodoo. Although that seems wierd her ideas worked with the clothes that were majority strecth silk and stemming from menswear. Her collection to me looks to have a vintage look with a cultural twist to it.

Below is a video on Oscar de la Renta's 2009 collection. His collection was another that I liked because of his range of clothes that go from years ago to modern day fashions that anybody regardless of age can wear and enjoy.

Environmental Friendly Clothes

I don't know much about organic and eco-friendly clothing,
just the basics of it being better for the environment. I am aware that eco-friendly clothing
helps the environment by reducing pollution so we can live safely and healthy.
With research I found out that the fabric from these types of clothes
are made from leftover cuttings of fabric from clothing factories. Then from there
the leftovers are sorted based on their colors and shades which is where they get
their color from. No dyes or bleach is added to the fabrics. (EcoGear, 2008)
Below I posted a chart that shows the comparison of how three different fabrics
including the eco-friendly fabric is made.

(EcoGear, 2008)
I think that eco-friendly clothing is a smart and good idea. I would buy their clothes
to support cleaning up the environment but locating them is inconvenience because
they're not sold in regular stores. But I am not against the idea of eco-friendly clothes
because I am all for making the world a better place and preventing people from trashing it.

Favorite Designer

My favorite designer is Donna Karan because her designs are so diverse and they target more than one type of person. Her collection of apparel ranges from everyday casual to seasonal runway. Even though her line is mostly for women, she creates clothes for men and juniors along with shoes, and accessories. Nothing in her collection is too ridiculous to the point where it would only be seen worn on the runway. But at the same time her clothes are different in thier own way and can still be worn for any occcasion.

Donna Karan's line DKNY (Donna Karen New York) can be found in any store ranging from Saks Fifth to Macy's and even in Ross. DKNY is mainly exspensive but some of her clothes are affordable and that's one of the reasons why I like her as a designer. She doesn't just market wealthy people and make clothes available for them, she reaches all demographics. I myself know I can't afford Donna Karan's high end clothing. But by her clothes being in department stores, I own a pair of DKNY skinny jeans and they're my favorite pair of jeans that I like to wear. And I think it's cool that I can wear my favorite designer's clothing and not many people can say that about their favorite designers.
